What It Takes To Make It

"This e-zine has come about due to my lack of success in the internet and mail order business opportunity market. I have been marketing on the internet for almost 2 years now and have tried various plans and schemes".
This is the most funniest, if not the most tragic statement of the cyber year :-) I too, fit this description for many years, but at least now I know how to effectively build an online business. But it is a long learning curve and there really are no shortcuts. Yes, some make money quickly by cheating, scamming and swindling you, but I am talking about an honest, value-laden business that you can proud of.
There are many who say "you will make $5,000 in one week!, it is a guaranteed deal", "no selling needed" (or any work for that matter), but if you believe them, I have some land in the Everglades... If it was that easy everyone would be rolling the dough! It ain't that easy, and don't let anyone tell you different. However, does that mean not to try to build a business and/or sell others' products/services? No! But don't even start if you don't have the following:
1. Desire 2. Family Cooperation 3. Some money 4. A plan 5. Attitude
Desire means to have a dream, a thirst for something better; bigger and different than you now possess. It means you have a desire that will take you over the bumps, obstacles and 'naysayers'. Desire will keep the engine burning when others are throwing cold water on it.
Family Cooperation. I am talking about a critical factor for many or us. It means that if you have a spouse (most critical:-), mom, dad or other relative, that you respect, telling you "you are wasting your time", "it is a stupid idea", "stop spending all this time for nothing" or meeting your enthusiasm with a blank stare, you need to seriously consider not even starting, unless you consider a divorce, which is, of course the wrong thing to do. If you aren't encouraged, or at least tolerated with passive silence, don't even start, building a business online is met with many obstacles frustrations and without encouragement and support from your loved ones it makes it a pretty miserable experience. I am saying this not from experience, but from imagination! I have nothing less than total love and support! Reading this hon?
I say you need to spend some money because even though I write a newsletter called "How To Build An Online Business Using Free Stuff!", you have to spend some money on advertising, software, or hardware... So many surfers-internet users, expect to get everything online for free. It is endemic to web surfers. The beauty of cyberspace is that many things are indeed free: web sites, promotion tools, graphics, clip art, fonts, products/services to resell, stores, ISP's, computers, travel ...on and on. So why shouldn't people expect everything else to be free? This mind set is why millions who want to have a successful business online won't. They won't bite the bullet and take that $20, $40 or even $200 and spend it on stuff they need to either attract the right visitors, create a professional web site or make it easy enough for visitors to buy. These freebie-er's, if I can use this word, are a new breed of creature that has been created with the advent of the Internet. You don't see them as much offline as you do online. I guess it is the impersonal nature of cyberspace that nurtures this type of attitude. You can look at someone in the eye offline and make them feel pretty low for asking if it is free or heavily discounted :-)
Which brings me to what is the most critical aspect of succeeding, ATTITUDE. I have always been an optimist, if not a downright (hate to admit it) positive thinker. I know what you are thinking, he's one of those Robbins, Zigler clones that have been brainwashed into thinking that even if you lose your house, wife, job, health... you will have a smile, a cheery disposition and believe it is only a little bump in the road. NO, that is not what positive thinking is to me. (and I have had some of those things happen to me:-( It is believing that our lives are in the hands of someone much greater who actually has a plan for your life and there is nothing that is impossible with faith, desire and determination. It is okay to cry, yell and stomp your feet at life's frustrations, it is not all right to do it all the time. When life deals you a bad hand, you need to look at it from above, i.e. with a different perspective. Get out of yourself, stop having a pity party and look at the circumstances with the view of "Ok, now what is worst thing that could happen". Then you will be able to assess whether you can or want to 'keep on, keeping on'. Believe me, we all will go through tough times, hardship and tragedy. But those that have the right attitude, and with faith the size of a mustard seed, will flourish.
Last but not least, is a plan. I should put this first as anyone with a serious desire for something bigger and better needs to have a written plan. It doesn't have to be 20 pages long, with Executive Summary, Study of Competition... of a formal business plan, but an outline of what your goal is, what product or service you want to sell (oops I used that dastardly word again), who your customers will be and how you want to get the message to them. This plan is like the rudder of a ship, steering your business through uncharted waters. It will be the foundation upon which you build. (getting biblical, oh, oh). But more than anything it will be direction to go, the ideas, the dreams you have in your mind/spirit that are put on paper so you can visualize them. And seeing is truly believing. Amen.

Nine Breakthrough Marketing Ideas! by Larry Dotson
1. Create a directory of web sites on a specific topic. Give people the option of adding the directory to their web site by linking to it. Put your business advertisement at the top of the director's home page. This technique will get lots of people to link to your web site and give you free advertising.
2. Do you have a product or service that doesn't sell too well? Offer it as a free bonus for someone else's product or service. Get free advertising by placing your web site or business ad on the product or in the product package.
3. Trade autoresponder ads with other businesses. If both of you send out information with auto- responders just exchange a small classified ad to put at the bottom or top of each other's autoresponder message.
4. Start a free tip line. Offer a free daily, weekly, or monthly tip recorded on your voice mail. The tips should be related to your business. Include your ad for your web site or business at the beginning or end of your message.
5. Exchange content with other web sites and ezines. You could trade articles, top ten lists, etc. Both parties could include a resource box at the end of the content.
6. Offer to insert ads into your product package for other businesses. Just ask, in return that they do the same for your business. You should only trade insert ads with businesses that have the same target audience.
7. Offer a free daily class in your web site's chat room. The class should be related to the subject of your business or web site. This will get people to visit your web site everyday.
8. Place different emotional response ads for the same product or service all over your web site. One ad may hit their hot button to buy more than another ad.
9. Publish your e-zine in e-book format. You could offer a larger number of articles per issue. It also allows you to include graphics with your ezine.
