Today's feature writer offers us a guide to obtaining joint ventures with non-competing companies. Here's another good idea for gaining strategies from your competition:
Profit From the "Secret" of The Copycat Principle By Marty Foley
Multi-millionaire John D. Rockefeller is reported to have said: "When you hear of a good thing - something already working for the other fellow - don't delay but get in while you can." Therein lies a key to saving time and money in your business, as well as improving your chances of success: the "secret" of the Copycat Principle.
The established leaders in your particular field have already blazed a trail for you. They've spent considerable time, money and effort researching what works and what doesn't. What the trail blazers have learned only through much trial and error experimentation and expense is largely available for you to learn - easily, and at little or no expense to you. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. (Even giant corporations borrow ideas from one another. You can do the same.)
Closely examine the leaders in your field to determine the things they are doing right (so you can adapt them to your own situation) and the things they are doing wrong (so you can avoid them). Study their operating methods. Get on their mailing lists. Scrutinize their catalogs, brochures, ads, (especially their repeat ads), and other marketing materials. Try to adapt the winning elements of these to your own business, without copying anything illegal or that can otherwise cause problems for you.
Ideas can be gleaned from others to help you in many areas, including: new products (and services) to develop or acquire, how to price them, how and where to market them, etc.
This is not to say you should copy others too closely. Isn't variety the spice of life? Be a creative imitator. Aim to refine and improve on the ideas you glean. Use your own imagination and ingenuity, adding your own unique twist. Who knows, you may even come with something better!
Especially when first starting out in business, lean heavily on the Copycat Principle. Venture into uncharted waters with extra caution. Once you're well established, you'll have more experience to draw from, making ventures into uncharted waters less hazardous. You have limited time and money to risk in your business. You can reduce that risk, thus increasing your likelihood of success, if you use the Copycat Principle.

This marketing strategy can be 'pure dynamite' for you! The strategy has been described by Mike Enlow as "the fastest, easiest way on earth to make a fortune." It has been called "Joint Ventures Marketing," "Endorsed Offer Marketing", and "Fusion Marketing" by its various proponents. Perhaps its greatest advocate, Jay Abraham (my mentor), has referred to this strategy as setting up a "Host/Beneficiary Relationship."
Here's what's great about this approach to marketing. It can be done with little or no financial investment, and it WORKS (producing thousands and thousands of dollars in profits for those who understand how to use it well)!
---------------------------------------- Yes... Host/Beneficiary Marketing Works! ----------------------------------------
'In a nutshell'... these are the basics of how it's used.
A Host company agrees to let a Beneficiary company send a sales message to people on the Host company's customer list.
Though the Beneficiary usually prepares the message, it's signed (and endorsed) by the Host. This capitalizes on the Host's relationship with His/Her customers (Host's valuable 'hidden' asset). It's a fact... customer lists are recognized as valuable business assets by the IRS.
For use of this list, the Beneficiary typically agrees to share a portion of the profits with the Host. Also, many times the Beneficiary will give FREE items to the Host's customers who take advantage of the offer in the message.
That makes it a "win-win" deal for everyone (the Beneficiary, the Host, and the Host's customers)!
Now let's suppose you have a product. Expand your thinking as to what a product is (on the Internet, it could be an ebook, a piece of software, an affiliate program, or even an MLM business opportunity).
How would you go about setting up a highly profitable "Host/Beneficiary Relationship" to market that product?
--------------------------------------- Getting Started ---------------------------------------
Here's a simple three-step process to get you started developing profitable Host/Beneficiary Relationships.
1) Make a list of all the business people you know who've developed strong positive and trusting relationships with their customer base or client list.
2) Examine each of these potential "Hosts" to be certain they don't offer products that would be in competition with your own.
3) Make your pitch. Send a one-page letter introducing your company and inviting them to consider a joint-venture proposal. Assure them your product is non-competitive, and that you'll prepare the offer and track responses (all they'll have to do is sign a letter to their customers which you'll have written). Offer them a generous commission for each sale generated from their list. Also assure their customers will thank them (because you'll be giving customers who respond a valuable FREE _____).

"Sorry, But You've Been Disqualified"
Do you get frustrated when you spend time with a person who is just not serious about your product or service? Especially when you knew they weren't real prospects to begin with?
You've done it. So have I. Everyone has, at times.
So, how do you avoid this? Simple. Admit to yourself that most people will NOT end up buying from you. Then learn to disqualify the non-serious prospects earlier.
Take the list you made for the previous tip, and look it over. Be honest with yourself and see how often you spend time with people that you know aren't serious. And then decide that you won't waste that time in the future. Yours OR theirs.
When you think you're dealing with someone who isn't a good prospect, or who might not be really serious, DISqualify them. Tell them something along the following lines:
"Gerry, I know I've got a great product, but I also know it's not perfect for everybody. It doesn't seem that you see this as being the right fit for you, and I don't want to take up your time if that's the case. Are there any questions I can answer for you before I go?"
Or give them a chance to say no, and then surprise them by taking "No" for an answer.
Remember the 80/20 rule. 80% of your sales will come from 20% of your pool of potential prospects. Spend your time with them!
Sound simple? It is. And if you can do this, you'll save a lot of time and frustration.
Spend that extra time finding prospects that *will* buy. Or working on your sales skills.
Or just go fishing. You're not making any less money, right?

7 Keys to a Successful Life by Larry Brophy
Much has been written on what it takes to win the game of life. A lifetime of experience says it's not as complicated as most people make it. Here's my list. Take what you want.
1. You can't succeed alone. Every story of success is a story of people working together, each contributing their own unique talents, skillsets and abilities. Do what you do best. And let others fill in the gaps.
2. Perseverance always wins. You can't fail if you don't quit. Find yet another way to make it work. Whatever *it* is for you. As Winston Churchill said in Britain's darkest hour, "Never, never, never give up."
3. Take time from your busi-ness every day - even if only 10 or 15 minutes - to center yourself. Some call it meditation. It'll make you more effective and you'll accomplish much more.
4. If you don't like where you are today, don't expect tomorrow to be any different without change. Change your attitude, your priorities, your activities. Change from being rea-c-tive to being c-rea-tive.
5. You are a product of your thoughts. It's true that 'thoughts are things'. Whatever you think about most of the time is what you create in your life. Hint: If you want more than you think you have now, don't *ever* give energy to thoughts of lack.
6. You always receive what you give. Consequently, if you want help, be helpful. If you want honest relationships, be truthful. If you want success, help others get what they want. If you want love, be loving. The corollary is that you always find what you're looking for.
7. Life *really* is like a movie. You write the script. You're the star, director & critic. And like a movie, it ends. What's important in life is not just the journey, but the *quality* of the journey. That's why it's important to make *every* day the best it can be, 'cuz *now* is all you have.
What the heck. You might as well enjoy life. None of us are gettin' out alive. ;-)
