Today's marketing writer gives us some very useful tips for keeping visitors at our sites and for bringing them back again. Here is a simple, effective plan from Bill Daugherty for consistently bringing in new traffic:
The Take No Prisoners Marketing Strategy by Bill Daugherty
There are more web sites on the WWW than there are people on the earth. And at one level or another, you are in competition with everyone of those billions of sites for your share of site traffic. To maximize your marketing efforts you need a strategy that includes a large arsenal of marketing tools and a plan that uses those tools consistently and simultaneously. I have recently developed such a strategy to market my own Internet businesses, and the results have been spectacular.
I call it "The Take No Prisoners Marketing strategy," because it utilizes a relentless 100% marketing effort. Previously I approached my site promotion in an unorganized and haphazard way. As a result, my traffic was up and down, mostly down. Since following this new strategy, my traffic has consistently grown and my sales have never been higher.
My first step was to devote a portion of each and every working day to doing nothing but submitting ads. That's every working day. No exceptions.
Step two was keeping a log of all my search engine and ad submissions. I enter the name and URL of the site, the ad copy, the date of submission, the duration of the ad and when I can resubmit. This is extremely important. If you don't know when to resubmit, you will either over-submit and be branded a spammer, or you will under-submit and fail to realize the full benefits from those sites.
Step three was to increase my marketing tool arsenal. Previously, I had limited my marketing to FFA (Free For All) pages, online classified ads and an occasional ezine ad. I added banners, links on other sites, a lot of ezine ads (both free and paid), joining and mailing to a lot of opt-in email groups and some offline advertising. Plus, I increased my use of the resources I had been using.
Step four consists of constantly monitoring my traffic and tracking the results of my various ads. If one ad resource isn't working, I drop it. Of course, I am always adding new marketing tools to my arsenal.
Step five is the best step of all. I watch as my traffic and my bank account grow.
The key to this simple, yet effective strategy is staying with it day after day. If you have the self-discipline to follow this regiment for a month or two, you will never want for traffic to your site.

How To Become An Expert In One Easy Lesson

When I took my first job as a newspaper reporter, I became an instant expert!
I was sent out to cover a story and had to quickly compile the facts and then present them in a way in which the average reader could understand them.
Then, if that was not enough, I was often expected to offer instant analysis on the event. And sometimes even answer questions - when city officials, and others called for information. Because, after all, at the moment I was the expert. I knew more about the subject than most people.
And that's basically what an expert is. It's someone who knows more about a particular subject than the average person. Usually this expert is also successful using the knowledge that he or she possesses.
Sometimes just writing an informative or authoritative article or book can turn you into an expert.
Other times an "expert" has studied for years to gain their knowledge.
Whatever it is, it works and they are instantly successful using and presenting this knowledge to others! And people find their information useful and helpful and return to learn more.
1) Use Research To Increase Your Knowledge
When I was in college I had to write term papers. A term paper involved hours and hours in the library researching a particular subject.
When you were through, though, you felt like an expert!
Anyone asking you questions about that subject could get instant answers from you.
What I'm saying here is that you can become an expert by doing research.
Research the topic, study it, and learn all you can!
Then put together the pieces - almost like writing a term paper, or putting together a jigsaw puzzle (remember how you put together that term paper or research paper in school).
My 11 year old son recently did a report for his fifth grade class about World War II. Because he had done the research and knew more about the subject than his classmates, he in essence, was the World War II expert in his class. His classmates could ask him questions and get answers on this topic! He knew more than they did about World War II!
The more you know on a particular subject, the greater your expertise! But you don't have to know everything about a subject to get started! You can often learn as you go along. Just the fact that you know more than most people about a particular subject will begin to make you an expert in their eyes.
But don't bluff (pretend to know something you really don't know). Because when people find out, your expert status will vanish in an instant!
2) See What the Experts Are Doing and Do Likewise
One of the quickest ways to succeed is to see what those who are already successful are doing and then do likewise.
This may at times involve a great deal of research to uncover what it is that they are doing.
Other times they will just tell you if you ask.
Don't copy directly what they say or what they have written. But like the research paper, you can write about and present information on what you do know that is already in your head. And remember to always give credit where credit is due!
Check Your Facts
Like any good reporter worth his "salt", make sure you check your facts and get them right!
There's nothing more aggravating then to wake up the next morning and discover you got one of your facts wrong and to be called on it!
In Summary
Becoming an expert really is not all that difficult. It just takes time to research and to learn.
But remember, nobody starts at the top. Everybody has to begin somewhere to build their knowledge.
But once you do, then you are in a position to teach others.
You will have become an "expert" - because others will look to you to learn the knowledge that you possess.
And they will listen to you, too, because - after all - you possess the knowledge that they are lacking and wanting!

Sticky Sites Sell!

It is important to make your web site "sticky" if you want to increase your sales. When I refer to "sticky", I don't mean advertising glue products or adhesives for sale on your web site.
A "sticky" web site refers to a web site that can keep its visitors on their web pages for a long period of time and also get the same visitor to return for a future visit.
An example of a sticky site is one of the many search engines on the Internet. These sites keep their indexes fresh and provide new content every day. People return to these same search engines day after day.
These web sites generally make their revenue by providing banner advertisement on their web sites. They try to encourage the visitor to view as many pages as possible on their site. The more page views they generate, the more revenue they will make from banner ads.
Since their revenue is contingent on banner ads, it is important that these companies keep their web sites sticky. Many web sites on the Internet provide new content on a daily basis such as "Cartoon of the Day" or "Today's Horoscope", so that users will return daily to view the new content.
Statistics indicate that the longer you can keep a visitor at your web site is directly related to your sales.
Bottom line. The longer you keep someone at your site, the more likely they will buy your product or service.
Web sites that do not change their content or appearance generally do not do well in the long run. You should provide fresh content regularly if you want to be one of the web sites that succeed.
You could offer a weekly contest and list winners on the website. Maybe provide a series on continuing articles on a particular topic that will continually bring a visitor back to your web site.
Why not have your web site offer a service such as free postcards or free classifieds to keep people coming back to post more ads and send out more postcards?
There are many web sites on the Internet that will provide you with free content for your web site. All you have to do is carry a small logo of their web site or link to their web site.
This is a small price to pay for content that is updated regularly and in some cases on a daily basis.

It is important to keep visitors at your web site and more importantly giving them a reason to return. Research indicates that customers sometimes need to see an advertisement over seven times before they will buy a product or service.
One visit to your web site will just not cut it. Give a visitor a reason to return to your web site and you give yourself a better chance to make a sale.
Content is king.
If you don't provide fresh content, you are just wasting web space.
